ONE WEEK AND COUNTING!!!!

We are now one week away from OBR date NOV 6!!!  Volunteers are in place and last minute plans are being made.... this has been one exciting journey, fabulous people have volunteered to make this event a HUGE success, it definitely "takes a village" and we have that spirit RIGHT HERE!!!!

The photo above is that of the Delta Quilters who were working on the capes as of Monday night.... remarkable women doing a great service to their community, through these costumes we will be giving people a renewed concept of the Salvation Army and what they do for our "East County".  It is so great belonging to a community who does not hesitate to jump right in!!!

Things seem to be set!!

The OBR committee met last night, some changes were made such as:

Salvation Army Brass Band will now be on Nov 6 at the Streets of Brentwood. We will have the Emergency Canteen  serving coffee and whatnot on Nov 20 for the Christmas Parade also at the Streets of Brentwood... (I'm not happy that the City of Brentwood choose to start construction on the main street before the parade, but the wishes of the Citizenry are not always the first consideration, so we are off once again to the Big Box stores... charming....

Antioch Planning Commission approved the use permit for the new home of Salvation Army-Delta Corps!!! The Salvation army was also thanked for their service to the community... which was very nice. In the photo, front row, from left to right are the pastors of three church's,  Christy Parks-Ramage of First Congregational Church of Antioch,  Jackie Smith of Salvation Army  and Will McGarvey of Community Presbyterian Church.

It was a quick process and we had much support. A prayer circle was performed after the hearing and thanks was given.......

A little behind

I realize I am a little behind, but my "other" job caught up with me this week and time had to be devoted to that endeavor!!!  However this is what is happening on the "home" front....

From Major Jackie:

In preparation for an attempted acquisition of a new property for the Salvation Army Delta Corps at 620 East Tregallas, Antioch, CA ;

- a neighborhood meeting will be held at First congregational Church at 7pm on 10/14/2010. the mtg will be held at 620 East Tregallas, The First Congregational Church in Antioch. this mtg is for residents of the area/neighborhood to ask questions and/or raise objections to the proposed relocation of The Salvation Army Delta Corps. This meeting was a success!!

Spoke to a printer in Antioch about the banners, the price seems to be going up not coming down... we really NEED at least two banners!!!

Jorgelina at Brentwood Embroidery finished the emblems for the capes and they look great, now we need to cut them out and attach to the capes themselves.  The bonnets are "almost" ready.

Richard Wisdom will be taking a promo picture tomorrow for next weeks' Brentwood Press...

we are moving along!!!

Today, Oct 7, 5pm

Hi Team,

We have an OBR meeting at 5pm, Diamond Hills today. I will be giving up update on whats been happening.. Today I hope to hear from Stefanie Vrapi from Del Oro (Western Div) of Salvation Army, she is in charge of PR for our area...

Is there anyone in East County who can help with contacting the right people at City Hall in Pittsburg? I spoke with Caroline at Sierra Pacific Properties in Concord who manages the electronic sign on Highway 4 near Winter Chevrolet about putting a volunteer message on the board, she said NO, even though Meredith of the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce had given us the ok..... she stated that it was for businesses of Pittsburg only, I commented that Salvation Army-Delta Corps IS a business which services Pittsburg. Out of four cities and four "townships" Pittsburg receives 21% of the help, with only 17% of donations from their city. SOOO, it would be nice to have someone contact the city about the status of SA-DC and "the board".

Still looking for a donor for two banners for our cause.... Fast Signs on Lone Tree has turned us down, but lets keep trying. The signs are expensive, approximately $100.00 for a 3x8 vertical banner. We need one for the Streets of Brentwood as it is not the "best" location in the complex, but hopefully we can draw people to us with a tall banner... the other would be used for general promotions... any ideas????

Also, can anyone give a hand getting High School golfers to back Jack Roddy at the golf course on Deer Valley.....

Can You Help?

You Can Help By:
Covering a four hour shift at one of the kettle locations
Hosting a Red Kettle Day in your company lobby, cafeteria, church entry, or other high traffic area.
Hosting an online Red Kettle by registering at www.onlineredkettle.org
Host a Red Kettle Day at Your Company or Organization
Your company, church, or organization can make it easy and convenient for your employees or members to help less fortunate citizens in your community by hosting an on-site Red Kettle Day.  The event is both fun and personally rewarding for those who participated.
To increase excitement and participation, give the people the opportunity to sign up for shifts to ring a bell, or stand at the Red Kettle.
The Salvation Army will supply the Red Kettle, a hand held bell, and red aprons.
For more information, please call 925-778-0808 and ask for our Holiday Host Coordinator!
