What a great SUNDAY!!!!

Just attended the Salvation Army-Delta Corps 9am morning service with my 3yr old grandsons... How uplifting, the singing was superb and the camaraderie very special.  I will be going back!!!!

I am so happy to say WELCOME to Shannon Skinner and Heidi Stagnitto who joined our Advisory Board... I knew from the first conversation with them that they will be a force to be reckoned with!!!

We  could not accomplish any of our goals without the dedication of our Advisory Board.

A special Thank You to T.J. Bradley of the Antioch Kiwanis who is making himself available to help recruit the High School Seniors of East County for bell ringing this year.

We have two special NEW committees this year: Chaperone Committee and PR/FUND Raising.

Heidi Stagnitto has committed to chairing the "Chaperone" committee and will be doing the recruiting for this years bell ringing.

Shannon Skinner is with Barnes and Noble in Antioch, she will be using her skills in PR and Fund Raising.

The OBR committee is working hard thru the efforts of Emily Slatten and TJ Bradley.

If you can spare the time to help these committees call Major Jackie at (925) 525 0324.

Kiwanis-Oakley Monday Night Aug 1, 2011

Ruth Buzzard will be speaking to the Kiwanis in Oakley this Monday evening at 6:30pm at the Round Table Pizza on Main St. in Oakley. We wish her luck in recruiting some chaperons for our Christmas Season.  It is so important for the youth of today to be lead by the adults, only through the hands on experience can the children learn the true meaning of community spirit.

BIG Thank you to the Brentwood LIONS

A BIG thank you to the Brentwood Lions for a generous donation of $100.00 for our upcoming Christmas Season AND for allowing us to speak about our need for chaperones.

We had at least eight sign ups last Wednesday, July 20. Ruth Buzzard and I explained our program and how the proceeds benefit East County Residents ONLY.

We would like to speak to more organizations and we need YOUR help in doing so. If you belong to an organization that would allow us to speak we would be very GRATEFUL.  We must start now to have a program in place before Oct 15. That means lots of scheduling  between Adults and High Schoolers.

We cannot approach the students until we know what the adults can contribute. Please contact either myself, mj at (925) 382 8743 or Major Jackie at (925) 525 0324

it's time to get the PUSH ON

Its that time of year!!! We need help getting chaperons for our High school Students this bell ringing season. We have changed things up a bit and want to emphasize the need of Adults steering our young people in their community involvement.

I am happy to say Ruth Buzzard and myself will be addressing the Brentwood Lions on this very subject July 20. If any of our readers can help us speak to groups about chaperoning we would very MUCH appreciate your endorsements...

THINGS ARE STEAMING AHEAD!!!!

WELLLLLLL, things have gotten off to a grand start here at SA-DC. We have a lot of new members for the Advisory Board and would like a few more... there are so many things that need to be done.

We have three committees in place and would now like some volunteer help to make it all happen for OUR East County.  Anyone interested in being on one of three committees that are now established?
They are:

1. Volunteer Committee (finding adults to chaperon middle/high school students during bell ringing season) as well as speaking to the various schools.. Linda Vogelgesang and Dane Dearlove, Co-Chairs
2. Events Committee: Nov 5 kickoff and Brentwood Christmas parade.  Emily Slatten- Chair

3. Grant Research Committee:  Help research and formulate plans for available grants.  Barbara Cowan- Chair

We have lots of good ideas and the know how to make it happen, help is what we need plenty of.. soooo that being said, how about calling either MJ (925) 382 8743-cell or Major Jackie (925) 525 0324 and find out how you may be of service.

Your comments are welcome and we invite you to become a follower of our Salvation Army-Delta Corps Blog  (SA-DC)

WOW!!! What a DAY

Attended an All Day Seminar on Grant Writing that was sponsored by Supervisor Federal Glover, it was GREAT!!  I have attended a few classes/seminars and this was EXCELLENT... David Fraser and Lavonna Martin really know their stuff.  I have been inspired not just for the grant writing but what ideas it stimulated for our Salvation Army East County.

We are looking for committee volunteers that will be chaired by board members... anybody interested in helping this years projects for YOUR East County neighbors?

Please call Major Jackie at 525 9324 or me mj at 382 8743-cell... we will be happy to answer any questions.

IF ANYONE IS A RETIRED RESEARCH TYPE, HOW ABOUT GIVING US A HAND IN THE GRANT RESEARCHING DEPARTMENT??????  You would have a willing "minion".. ME... mj

Update January 25, 2011

Well people, things are coming along well. We are having a tea on Feb 5 for prospective Board Members and look forward to discussing what we can all do to help East Contra Costa County's needy.

Last year brought a lot of new ideas and we were actually able to implement a few with the help of  SA Headquarters in Sacramento. They have great PR and IT people who made things so easy for us.

We learned a lot this last year about what worked and what didn't  and with help from new board members we will be stronger and more effective for those needing help the most....

I will update you on our upcoming tea and let you know how it all goes.... mj

YEAH 2011!!!

Well best news came in yesterday, we are actually UP over 2009 in donations, what a relief!!! Our kettles did not do as well BUT overall donations were slightly up and the new Great is GOOD in this economy so we are all very happy!

We are going to be forming a new sub committee to help recruit adult volunteers for the upcoming season.

What we found out this year was that we had the willing high school volunteers but not the adult chaperons.  Soooooo, if anyone would be so kind as to sign on for the OBR (Operation Bell Ringer) committee it would be so appreciated!!!

Here's to Fabulous 2011....
